This holiday season is so filled with wonderful culture in our Spanish-speaking countries, it is my favorite time of the year to share this culture with students.
Here are some of the fun holiday lessons that I plan. Each one combines culture with Spanish language and vocabulary items so that students never stop learning.

Here are some of the fun holiday lessons that I plan. Each one combines culture with Spanish language and vocabulary items so that students never stop learning.
Las Posadas Activities (December 16th - 24th)

This group of activities introduces students to the traditions of Las Posadas including verses of the villancico "Pidiendo Posada". Students look at the vocabulary and language used in the song verses as well as the cultural information to complete a variety of activities. These activities can be spread out over these few weeks before Christmas or they can be done as a 2 day station activity.
La Navidad (December 25th)
La Navidad (December 25th)

I am an absolutely horrendous singer, but lucky for me there are plenty of famous artists that sing villancicos for my students to enjoy. These activities allow my students to hear some popular villancicos, try to fill in some missing words, and play with the language involved. Most of the songs are simple for students to learn and they will actually know what they mean after working with these activities!
El Año Nuevo (December 31st / January 1st)
El Año Nuevo (December 31st / January 1st)

New Year traditions are really interesting to me and each country is so unique. These activities teach students about many of those traditions through the use of infographics. Students can improve their reading and visual literacy skills while still learning culture.
El Día de los Reyes Magos (January 6th)
El Día de los Reyes Magos (January 6th)

My students are always horrified to find out that children in most Spanish-speaking countries do not get gifts on Christmas. However, they love learning about Three Kings Day and the Rosca de Reyes tradition. This is my favorite activity as it includes a virtual Rosca de Reyes where students choose pieces of the cake to try and find el niño jesús. There is definitely no lack of participation on this one!
I hope you have a chance to check out some of these fun holiday products and let me save you some prep time over this holiday season!
