I began by typing up some small slips that each contained a form of an irregular verb in the preterite tense. I printed them on card stock and cut them out.
I set out 6 solo cups on a table, each labeled with a different subject pronoun.
We made observations about the endings that irregular verbs used compared to regular verbs and the lack of accentuation.
Then I handed the slips out again, this time asking them to place their slip in the cup that had the infinitive form of the verb they believe their word came from.
After that, we were ready to take some notes. I provided students a framework for their notes and we copied down a few of the charts.
