Let me start off by saying that I think "Hoarders" is really missing out on a golden opportunity. Teachers, myself included, are the worst hoarders! We have filing cabinets full of copies, books we haven't used in years but can't bare to throw out, items inherited from every teacher that retired in the last ten years, and supplies that we bought because they were on sale that we just knew we would use...someday, somehow.
Step 1: I am going digital! All of my paper copies are going in the recycling bin. If it's something that I desperately need I will scan it before I toss it, but it's getting tossed - all of it!
Step 2: If I haven't used a resource book in the last 5 years, it is going in a box. I plan on e-mailing my alma mater and donating the books to new teachers starting out. They haven't accumulated things yet and they have little money to buy them. This idea I can bare.
Step 3: I am purging all classroom decorations. I will not have a classroom to decorate for starters, but even if I do in the future, I will use student work to display.
